Do I have an obligation to Vote?

No, there is no legal obligation to vote. But you know what we say…use your vote anyway!

Where can I vote?

If you are a Croatian citizen voting in Croatia

If you live in Croatia, check your official home address, because you have to vote at the polling station assigned to the place you live. If you don’t know which one, you can find more information here

And guess what?! You don’t have to register, the authorities will do it for you. However, if you wish to vote at a different polling station, you have to register in advance.

If you are a Croatian citizen voting from another EU country

Are you on a trip abroad, but you reside in Croatia? You can cast your vote at any polling station in Croatian diplomatic-consular offices. Please keep in mind that you have to register in advance, either with the authorities in Croatia or at the embassy or consulate where you wish to vote. You can find the form online here.

Deadline to register: at least 10 days before the elections.

If you are a Croatian citizen living abroad, you can apply for an e-identity card and vote at the polling station assigned to your residency. This card will also automatically register you, so you don’t have to go through the procedure. If you don’t have it, you need to go through the same registration procedures from above. However, if you fail to register, the embassy or consulate can also issue a voting card on election day.

If you are an Croatian citizen voting from a country outside the EU

The same rules of registration apply when voting outside the European Union.

If you are EU citizen voting in Croatia

As a legal resident in Croatia, you can of course vote there! Make sure to register in the municipality where you have your official residence, to be on the voting list. You can learn more information here.

Deadline to register: you have to register at least 30 days before the date of the elections.
