When to Vote

Mark your calendars! 

Anyone aged 18 or over on the election day can vote if they have residency in Denmark and hold either Danish citizenship or the citizenship of another EU country.

Do I have an obligation to Vote?

No, there is no legal obligation to vote. But you know what we say…use your vote anyway!

Where can I vote?

If you are a Danish citizen voting in Denmark

Check your address because you can find your polling station on your poll card. No need to register, only if you changed your address recently, you should check if you are on the right voting list.

If you are a Danish citizen voting from another EU country

You can always vote by mail or in person at an embassy or consulate of Denmark. However, please make sure to register first on the voting list by applying to the municipality of Copenhagen

Deadline to register: your application needs to be processed at least 16 days before the elections

If you are a Danish citizen voting from a country outside the eu

The same rules of registration apply when voting outside the European Union. However, you will have to apply to the Danish municipality you lived in before moving out. Some conditions apply also if you:

If you are EU citizen voting in Denmark

As a legal resident in Denmark, you can of course vote there! Make sure to register in the municipality where you live, to be on the voting list.

Deadline to register: at least 5 weeks before the elections.

Can I vote online?
NO ✖ Unfortunately you cannot vote online in Denmark.

Can I vote by mail?
Good news, you can! ✔ Vote at any Citizen Service Centre in the country, between 28 April 2024 and 6 June 2024. Don't forget to bring your ID!

Can I vote by proxy?
NO ✖ Unfortunately you cannot vote by proxy in Denmark.
