Mark your calendars!

Anyone aged 18 or over on the election day can vote if they have residency in Italy and hold either Italian citizenship or the citizenship of another EU country.

Do I have an obligation to Vote?

No, there is no legal obligation to vote. But you know what we say…use your vote anyway!

Where can I vote?

If you are a Italian citizen voting in Italy

If you live in Italy, you have to vote at the polling station close to your residence (written on your voting card). And guess what?! The authorities will automatically register you if you have a legal residence in Italy.

You can only vote at a different polling station if you are in a special circumstance and if you study, for example, in a different city compared to your residence. For this last instance, you have to register by 5 May 2024.

If you are a Italian citizen voting from another EU country

Do you live abroad?  To vote, you need to be registered in AIRE (the Register of Italians Resident Abroad). If you are in the register, then you can vote at the polling stations organised at the consulates or the embassies of Italy abroad. The authorities should automatically send you the voting card with more information, including the address of the polling station. You can learn more here.

You can also vote if you are temporarily abroad for studying or working. Just keep in mind you have to register in the country of residence by 21 March 2024.

If you are an Italian citizen voting from a country outside the EU

If you leave outside the European Union, you should also be registered in the Register of Italians Resident Abroad (AIRE) of your municipality of origin in Italy. However, you can only vote by returning there and the authorities should inform you about it. Unfortunately, there is no other possibility to vote in the country of residence.

If you are EU citizen voting in Italy

As a legal resident in Italy, you can of course vote there! Make sure to register in the municipality where you have your official residence, to be on the voting list.

Deadline to register: you have to register no later than the 90th day before the date of the elections.
