Do I have an obligation to Vote?

No, there is no legal obligation to vote. But you know what we say…use your vote anyway!

Where can I vote?

If you are a Romanian citizen voting in Romania

If you live in Romania, you can vote at the polling station close to your official home address. And guess what?! You don’t have to register, the authorities will do it for you. However, if during election day, you wish to vote at another polling station, you can! You will just be added automatically to a supplementary list.

If you have recently changed your address, check with authorities if you are on the voters’ list of your new home address.

If you are a Romanian citizen voting from another EU country

Do you live abroad or do you plan to travel during the election day? You can vote at any embassy, consulate or other organised polling station by the State. And guess what?! There is no need to register in advance. You can learn more here.

If you are an Romanian citizen voting from a country outside the EU

The same rules  apply when voting outside the European Union. Go to any embassy, consulate or polling station organised by the Romanian state and vote, without the need to register in advance. You can learn more here.

If you are EU citizen voting in Romania

As a legal resident in Romania, you can of course vote there! Make sure to register with the municipality in advance, and vote at the polling station close to your residence. You can vote at a different polling station during the election day, with the condition that the Chair of the polling station’s electoral bureau checks by phone with the county (or sector, if in Bucharest) authorities that you are registered on the voters’ list.

Deadline to register: you have to register no later than 60 days before election day.
