Do I have an obligation to Vote?

No, there is no legal obligation to vote. But you know what we say…use your vote anyway!

Where can I vote?

If you are a Slovenian citizen voting in Slovenia

If you live in Slovenia, you can vote at the polling station close to where you live. And guess what?! You don’t have to register, the authorities will do it for you.

If you can’t vote on the 9th of June, you could do it also earlier at the polling stations created for this purpose (OMNIA), from Tuesday to Thursday. You can learn more here. To vote in advance at a different polling station, you have to let the authorities know at least 3 days before the elections.

If you are a Slovenian citizen voting from another EU country

Do you live abroad, without a permanent residence in Slovenia?  To vote, you do not need to register as the authorities already have a special voters list for those who have emigrated from Slovenia. All you have to do is to vote in person at the polling stations created in embassies and consulates abroad, by mail or in Slovenia, at the OMNIA (voting in advance) polling stations.

If you plan to travel temporarily abroad on election day, but you have a permanent residence in Slovenia, then you have to inform the State Election Commission that you wish to vote abroad. Afterwards, you can vote just as any Slovenian citizen living abroad.

If you are an Slovenian citizen voting from a country outside the EU

The same rules apply when voting outside the European Union (check above).

If you are EU citizen voting in Slovenia

As a legal resident in Slovenia, you can of course vote there! Make sure to register with the Ministry of Interior to be included on the voters’ list. You can submit a form by post or in person at their official address. You can find more information here.

Deadline to register: we recommend you do it as soon as possible since authorities will create the voters list at least 15 days before the election day.
